Core Returns Made Easy: How Powertrain Company Simplifies the Process

When you're replacing an engine, transmission, transfer case, differential, or other major drivetrain component, the last thing you want is a complicated return process for your old unit. That's why at Powertrain Company, we've worked hard to make core returns as simple and hassle-free as possible.

Many customers hear the term "core return" and assume it's going to involve complicated paperwork, expensive shipping, or a lot of back-and-forth communication. The reality is much simpler. Our team handles the logistics so you can focus on getting your vehicle back on the road.

What Is a Core?

A core is simply the old engine, transmission, transfer case, axle, or other component that you're replacing. These used units are returned to the remanufacturing process, where they can be inspected, remanufactured, and given a second life.

Returning your core helps keep the remanufacturing cycle moving and allows us to continue offering high-quality remanufactured products at competitive prices.

Our Simple Core Return Process

Returning your core with Powertrain Company can be completed in just a few easy steps.

Step 1: Save the Original Container

When your replacement unit arrives, keep the original crate, tote, or shipping container. You'll use this same packaging to send your old unit back.

Using the original container helps protect the core during transit and ensures it arrives safely at the remanufacturer for inspection.

Step 2: Drain All Fluids

Before pickup, make sure all fluids have been completely drained from the core. This includes oil, coolant, transmission fluid, and any other liquids contained within the unit.

Properly draining fluids helps comply with shipping requirements and prevents leaks during transportation.

Step 3: Request Your Bill of Lading

Once your core is packaged and ready to go, contact our team at 866-776-3646 or complete the Core Return Request form.

We'll provide the necessary shipping paperwork, including your Bill of Lading (BOL), which serves as the official shipping document for the pickup.

Step 4: Print the Paperwork

Be sure to print your Bill of Lading before the scheduled pickup.

Carriers require the printed paperwork at the time of pickup, and the driver cannot accept the shipment without it.

Step 5: We'll Coordinate the Pickup

After the paperwork is complete, we'll help coordinate the transportation of your core. Our goal is to make the process as convenient as possible so you don't have to spend time arranging freight services on your own.

What Makes a Core "Ready to Ship"?

To help avoid delays, your core should meet a few basic requirements:

  • Fully assembled and intact
  • Free of major cracks or holes
  • Completely drained of fluids
  • Packaged in the original container or shipping tote
  • Accompanied by the required shipping paperwork

When these simple guidelines are followed, the return process moves quickly and efficiently.
