A core charge is a refundable deposit typically added to the purchase of an engine or transmission. It ensures that the remanufacturer — like Powertrain Company — receives the original part back for rebuilding. If a customer does not return the old unit (the “core”), the deposit helps cover the cost of sourcing a replacement.
💡 How We’re Different
Powertrain Company is one of the first in the industry to not require payment of the core charge up front.
When you purchase an engine or transmission from us:
You’ll see a core charge listed on your invoice
If you choose to pay it up front, it will be refunded once your core is returned
If you opt to waive the core charge for the 45 days, it will appear as a balance due — but not collected immediately

If you waive the core fee and return your core within 45 days, here's what happens:
We cover the return shipping
We handle all paperwork and truck arrangements
You or your mechanic just needs to be present at the time of pickup

If you do not return your core within 45 days, you will be charged the core fee.
Most of the engines we sell at Powertrain Company are referred to as complete long block engines — a standard term in the automotive industry.
🔧 What’s Included in a Long Block?
A complete long block typically includes:
Remanufactured engine block and cylinder heads
Installed head gaskets and oil pump
In many cases, external components such as the:
Oil pan
Timing cover
Valve covers
Intake manifold
Starter
...are cleaned and reused
✅ Ready-to-Install Engines
We stock many engines with the oil pan and timing cover already installed — making them as drop-in ready as possible.
Not every engine is built the same, so we recommend reaching out to your account manager to confirm the exact configuration of the engine for your vehicle.
At Powertrain Company, all shipping rates are included in the price of your engine or transmission — no additional shipping fees for standard deliveries.
📍 Delivery Coverage
We ship directly to residential or commercial addresses, including your home or your mechanic’s shop
Carriers are selected based on regional availability and logistics
Shipping is available to the lower 48 U.S. states
Any additional shipping needs, such as freight forwarding, are the responsibility of the customer
🚚 Delivery Conditions
All deliveries are made using a tractor-trailer (semi-truck)
Final delivery location is at the discretion of the driver. If the driver determines that your road, driveway, cul-de-sac, or neighborhood cannot be safely accessed, the shipment will be delivered to the nearest accessible location
Changes to the delivery address after shipping may result in additional charges

If a part is in stock, we typically ship it by the next business day.
For delivery within the continental United States, most orders arrive within 5 days.

- PayPal: All standard PayPal payments are accepted. If you choose the e-check option, shipment may be delayed up to 4 business days until the payment clears. Transactions via PayPal balance or credit card are processed without delay.
